It was March 2013 I remember sitting at my desk in the City at 6.59am. Staring at three screens with lots of little numbers. Commodity Markets moving. Phones ringing. Clients calling out their brokers name out of speakers. Digital and Human noise everywhere. 10 hours of this on Monday. Then 10 hours on Tuesday. 10 on Wednesday. 10 Thursday. 10 Friday. Then I'd have to take clients away skiing for the weekend. Sounds great, but was also knackering. Get back late Sunday night from Gatwick, exhausted. Crawl in to bed. And the shrill alarm would pierce your deep sleep again at 5.30am to trudge back in to the Rat Race. And this thought hit me: “Is this it?” January had been “new year, new targets to hit for a bigger bonus.” February was short but hectic with a few clients trips around Europe and very late nights out. By March… nothing had really changed. In fact, fuck all had changed. Same routine, frustrations, hangovers. The feeling of being on a Hamster wheel. Clock ticking on my life. Tick, tock, tick, tock. The same quiet voice in my head asking bigger questions. And thats where today's Journal comes in to play for you. At the end of last year I gave all the guys in The Network a comprehensive tool to evaluate 2025, and plan out 2026. The guys completed it and found it really helpful. But today I thought I'd give you a watered down version to think about. I've split it in to 2 sections. Don't just do it in your head, take a few months to write it down. See what comes up. The First 60 Days – Truth Audit Answer these properly. 1) Where did my time and energy go? 2) What promise did I quietly break to myself? 3) Where did I choose comfort over growth? 4) What did I get right? Now shift forward. Because drifting for the next ten months would hurt more than facing the truth now. The Next 10 Months – Intentional Plan 1) If December arrives and nothing changes, what will I regret most? 2) Which one thing MUST I work on in the next 90 days? 3) What or who do I need to say NO to in 2026? 4) What uncomfortable move have I been delaying? 5) Who do I need around me so I don’t drift again this year? 6) What does a disciplined week look like in reality? Here's my prediction. Hundreds of men will read this. A small percentage of you will actually take the time to consider the questions. But, if after reading one or more of those questions an insight comes up, a lightbulb moment, or some action, it's a win. Everyone else will be back here again in 3-6-12 months wondering why nothing has changed. And I get it. I hear men say it all the time 'I'm tired and it's fucking hard doing it alone.' Yep, that's right. That’s exactly why the Whole Man Academy membership exists. A group of ambitious men. Regular honest conversations. Clear and achievable plans and advice. Weekly structure to stay on track. In fact, loads of them have already filled in their Focus and Accountability questions for the week ahead. That helps them quickly dial in to what's important to work on, not what feels nice. We're not pretending there's no challenges in your world. But facing up to them day after day to take more action and have more success is the game plan. If March is your turning point, come and join us. Or stay where you are and hope it fixes itself. The Whole Man Journal is three short reads a week — Monday, Wednesday, Friday. On your energy and your edge, going further in business, knowing where you're headed, and the men you surround yourself with. For men aged 35 to 60 with serious ambitions and the belief their best years are still ahead. From the Whole Man Academy, running men's events across the UK since 2018. Add your email below and join the men already reading.
Hmmm... Most of the advice aimed at 'ambitious' men says roughly the same thing. Keep pushing for the result you want. Never stop pursuing you dreams. Rest when you’re dead, Mofo. And most of the time, I agree with it to some extent. I mean... I love it when a guy has an attitude where he makes things happen, he is prepared to work hard, to put in the hours to create the opportunities he needs. There's loads of those guys in the membership, either Spark, Network, or Nexus. So I'm all for...
Be honest. Do you love what you do for your career? In fact.. for some...another question would be... ...do you even LIKE it? Now I reckon... ...about 5% will say they love what they do. ...maybe 30% will 'like' what they do ...and the rest are in the lower categories of 'it's ok'. or ' I can't stand it'. I've been in all those categories before, so wherever you stand I'm with you. But on Friday I saw a great example of something we should all be impressed with. I was at the Horse of the year...
I have a deep rooted memory of being out in Turkey on holiday as a kid. My family at some old town market haggling with men over a handbag or wallet or something. They give you some nice Turkish tea and you settle in for a short bartering session that seemed to last for hours. All for the sake of some leather and a few quid discount. For some reason I just hated it. On reflection it's because, as a kid you have zero interest in pissing about in some little market that smells like a camels....
